$6.6 million US paid for rarest of coins

   NEW YORKAn anonymous buyer submitted the winning $6.6-million US bid at an auc­tion of the U.S. double eagle gold coin still in existence, eclipsing by $2.5 million the previous record for the sale of a coin. The coin never went into cir­culation because then-presi­dent Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to take the country off the gold standard.
